Newmarket Racecourses have announced the fourth act for this year’s Newmarket Nights. Scissor Sisters will perform on Friday 22nd July as part of the 25th Newmarket Nights anniversary line-up.

The Scissor Sisters are an American band formed in 2001. The members consist of vocalists Jake Shears and Ana Matronic, multi-instrumentalist Babydaddy, lead guitar/bassist, Del Marquis, and drummer Randy Real.

Their debut album, released in the UK in 2004, went to number one and was one of the best selling albums over the year and was later certified platinum by the BPI. Hits from the album included “Laura”, “Comfortably Numb”, “Take Your Mama”, “Mary” and “Filthy/Gorgeous” – the latter also went to number one on the Billboard chart for Hot Dance Club Songs.

In 2006, the band released their second studio album, Ta-Dah, which proved to be a commercial and critical success and scored the band two consecutive number-one albums in UK as well producing their debut number-one single in the UK “I Don’t Feel Like Dancin'”. Displaying a shift towards a more club-oriented sound, their third studio album, Night Work, was released in 2010; charting at number two on the UK Albums Chart.
Scissor Sisters have collaborated with a number of other well known pop musicians including Elton John and Kylie Minogue; these particular collaborations have been received positively by both critics and other notable figures. Bono, lead vocalist of rock band U2, described Scissor Sisters as “the best pop group in the world” in 2004.

Tickets for Newmarket Nights with Scissors Sisters, Friday 22nd July are now on sale and accommodation at The Best Western Heath Court Hotel is still available.
